Can you spare a couple hours a week for a very worth while cause.
Volunteers are needed at BWI Airport.
Have you had a longing to tell people where to go?
Well now is your chance to tell people where to go and to help them
to their destination. Join the Baltimore Washington International
(BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport PATHFINDERS. This is a
volunteer group dedicated to helping people as they transit BWI. It
is interesting and informative way to meet and help travelers find
their way. You have the opportunity to meet people from all over the
world. If you are people watcher this is an excellent opportunity to
observe people wandering around the airport. It is a great way to
keep busy and active and be helpful at the same time.
Some of your former NSA, Northrop Grumman colleagues regularly help
the BWI customers navigate the airport terminal. Charles Ruby,
Dale Townsend, Tony Hansen, Walt Sullivan, Joe Miller, Diane
Haberstich,Jack Moseman, Larry Hill and Roland Larrett are some of
former Agency employees who are currently active PATHFINDERS.
In addition to these fine PATHFINDERS , we have about 120 active
volunteers who fulfill at least one 4-hour shift per week. We
have permanent Information Desks and three mobile Information
Podiums, as well as volunteers who function as “Roamers” who walk
the terminal helping folks and getting their walking exercise at the
same time. We provide our volunteers with a "summer" shirt (short
sleeve yellow polo) and a "winter" shirt (long sleeve red button
down) as well as a blue button down long sleeve shirt for their
shifts to help make them identifiable in the terminal.
Our BWI PATHFINDRS are wonderful and assist with airport,
airline, and flight information, crisis management/problem solving,
directions, translation(limited), tourist information, ground
transportation/driving directions, hotel reservations, promoting
state attractions, parks,
businesses, and much more!
See how much you can learn! We provide training, including a
full-day orientation (offered quarterly) as well as at least 5
one-on-one training sessions with a mentor PATHFINDER. We
offer complimentary parking in the hourly garage during your
volunteer shift. We also provide complimentary parking in the
employee lot when on vacation or extended trips.
We also have additional training opportunities like Monthly Brown
Bag Lunches featuring speakers on 'hot' topics, Monthly 'PATHFINDER
Newsletter,' MD Office of Tourism Familiarization Tours throughout
the State, and the MD Office of Tourism Nationally Certified
Training Program, and CPR, AED training sessions are also offered as
part of the continuing education.
Each year we have two social events where BWI PATHFINDERS get to see
each other and enjoy the company of their fellow volunteers.
We recognize everyone for his or her contribution at the Volunteer
Appreciation Month (April/May) Event and are hosted by a generous
local business for our Annual Holiday Party. We also have group
outings.
